Texting…I love it!

With 6 years as an advertising account contact under my belt, I regret to think of how many years of my life have been spent on the phone. And I try not to think of the impact those wireless waves will have on me long-term…

But, here in the UK all of that chatting on the cell are OVER. Texting is a dream. The cell plans here include a marginal number of minutes and a huge number of “texts”–e-mails that you can send via your cell phone to anyone anywhere on their cell. You spend way less time on the phone and are able to access info and others conveniently from your cell. And best of all, you’re charged if you send texts to others, but they’re never charged when you send messages to them.

Has texting become more mainstream in the US since we left in August?

Oh, I hate the plans offered by Sprint. I refuse to pay $0.15 per message except for the most important ones, and to pay $5 or $10 per month extra for the privilege of using a low-bandwidth service? Outlandish! There are those who disagree with me, but I don’t have that kind of money.

I’ve definitely gotten more into texting (I agree that its great for spending less time on the phone, but still stay in touch), but J is right – the plans are not that great yet. I pay 5 bucks a month for 250 texts – if I don’t pay that fee, they charge $0.10 to send and receive texts!!?? Perhaps someday we’ll catch up to the British! ;)

    J & Bethie,

Sorry to hear that the US texting is so expensive…hopefully that will change soon. Come to think of it, there’s a lot that needs to chane on the mobile front in the US…did you know that most (if not all) phones in the UK are interchangeable? You don’t have to get a new phone when you go to different countries…you just change you SIM card in order to have a new number (G may correct me here if I’ve missed finite details. Bethie–you probably know first hand since you lived in Germany?)

And my phone is VERY cool to boot. Whever I go to a new country, the backdrop on my Cell phone changes (Bavarian castle for Germany, Parliament and Big Ben for UK, Old Town Square (Prague) in the Czech Republic, and the Fortress in Salzburg for Austria). AND I love the 3mp camera…it comes in very handy as we’re out and about (and want to look like locals instead of the “sudo” tourists that we are :)
